Here is an excerpt from KR's paper. What are its strengths? How could he empower it?
"An allegiance is a pivotal method of gaining confidence that is necessary in a war. The Japanese realized the necessity of such allegiance but at the same time, failed to effectively utilize them. This lack of dedication and following of orders is quite evidence in Six Weeks of Terror. Chang's multiple paragraph footnote shows the confusion regarding the origins of the order to kill hundreds of thousands of people. If the footnote contains accurate information and an officer or officers went behind a general's back, it could be that allegiances were not very effective in Japan but rather served as outward signs of confidence, contrary to an actual solider or officer's views. At the same time, Hersey portrayed an effective allegiance by Japanese civilians in Panic Grass and Feverfew. Innocent people said, 'Let us give Banzai to our Emperor" (Hersey 115). Innocent people were willing to give up their lives for the sake of the Emperor whom they have never seen or known. That strong dedication to a being they do not even know shows an allegiance that was effective in Japan. The dedication to the Emperor was what gave citizens hope in a time of war where officers and soldiers turned their backs on one another. This balance of false allegiances were replaced by true ones though Japan would hardly have lost a war as it would be extremely strong and powerful. Japan was fortunate enough though to have the Emperor as a figurehead that caused average citizens to have hope for a powerful allegiance."

Even More China
Here is an excerpt from WS's paper. What are its strengths? How could he empower it?
" While 'Prisoner of the State' deals with a vastly different situation than 'No Stealing the Shrimp,' some of the actions and thought processes resurface. In this passage, Zhao Ziyang is being held under house arrest for a crime he is not even sure of. His detainment is unlike anything seen before in China, even in cases regarding more dangerous criminals than Zhao during more dangerous times. He is shown barely any attention from the government once he is put under house arrest and after two letters Zhao received a phone call stating they had received the letters and that nothing had changed in his confinement. This shows the trend that modern China is exhibiting. The General Committee to him Zhao is writing realize they can continue to hold Zhao under house arrest and they do not bother to examine his case or hold him fair trials because they have more important matters to attend to, and one individual 'fringe' criminal is far less important than taking down dangerous criminals, but the instinct of the Chinese tell them that the individual, Zhao, should be confined anyway."

China Again
Here is an excerpt from KR's paper. What are its strengths? How could he empower it?
"In modern China, it is necessary that when one watches out for himself in order to survive daily activities. Such a situation occurs when crossing the street. Joe Bennett described the situation as 'life or death.' Each person fends for himself and the same applies for drivers. 'Your concern is the person in front of you' (Bennett 53). A reference is even made to Charles Darwin, who most definitely realized the importance and strength of the individual. China has grasped that concept as each individual must act in an independent way. Every person is essentially on his own and his survival is therefore determined by himself. This ideal is made clear in a situation as common as traffic. In the battle between cars and pedestrians, the 'pedestrians are weak' (Bennett 53). The stronger individual will win and that trait resonates in all other aspects of Chinese society, aside from traffic. The economy, politics, and social functions all operate on that base ideal regarding the individual."

China
Here is an excerpt from PD's paper. What are its strengths? How could he improve it?
"In modern China, rebellion, or rather a lack of it, caused conflict. This conflict changed the lives of one man. The man in 'Saboteur' by Ha Jin is an example of how rebellion impacted China. The man verbally rebelled against the Chinese authorities when he was unjustly arrested for only speaking out at a policeman. This cruelty caused the man legal troubles. Just a simple acting against the government is considered unlawful and thus, the 'rebellion' cost him much. 'But you purposely tortured us common citizens' is the extent of the man's rebellion. This rebellion went on to cost the man an arrest and a court date. Demonstrated her is proof of the negative outcome of rebellion in modern China."
