Here is an excerpt from KR's paper. What are its strengths? How could he empower it?
"Latin Americans' intelligence was overlooked just as much as the combination of cultures within Latin America. Simon Bolivar said, 'we are not Europeans; we are not Indians; we are but a mixed species of aborigines and Spaniards' (221), which demonstrates the idea that it is unclear who the people of Latin America are. All that is clear is that they are simply Latin American. How could anyone judge the heritage of a group of mixed people? It is not that they are bad people, but rather a union of Europeans with Indians who have now evolved into a culture that is all its own. That is a situation not very common in the world's history but it holds great importance. The history and ancestry of Latin America is very unique, which represents its diverse culture."
I feel like Kyle had some really great ideas about the origin of Latin American culture, but did not take the ideas as far as he should have. Some of the ideas were a little confusing with the way his passage flows.
ReplyDeleteKyle's argument is very effective and sensible. After finishing the passage, I feel like I got a better picture of the points he was trying to make towards the beginning. However, I did not understand where he got the idea that Latin Americans were associated as "bad people." That line confused me.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this really worked as an emotional piece. I felt extremely bored after the first sentence, but by the end i felt strongly that this culture is unjustly prejudiced. Kyle was very moving and the quote was perfect. It flowed with the entirety of the paragraph. I thought this paragraph had really no major concerns.
ReplyDeleteThe first section of this article is drab and is extrememly informational, it is raw information so it is hard to take without reinforcment. It was otherwise a strong piece and i feel like Kyle knew what he was doing and he knew a lot aboutb the subject matter.
